Jon (the Flying Potter) came to visit us in December.

We felt the clay - it was soft and cold. We flattened the clay by hitting it with our hands. It was great fun!

We cut the clay using a template and clay tool. Jon made some number tiles. We used clay tools and extra clay on top of the tiles to make beautiful flowers, birds, plants and leaves.

When we had finished decorating the tiles we painted them using special blue, green and yellow clay paint. We were very careful and took our time to make them look nice.

Jon took all our tiles back to his pottery workshop, where he let them dry before putting them in the kiln to cook or fire. When they came out the colours were very bright.

Jon came back with the tiles. We are going to make them into a clock for our wall. We had great fun trying to find the tiles we had made. Don't you think it looks fantastic!

Who is the Flying Potter?

The Flying Potter was established in 1998 by Herefordshire based artist Jon Williams - a respected practitioner in the field of studio ceramics. Jons work has been exhibited all over the world in prestigious galleries and exhibitions. His one-off sculptural vessels are inspired by the potters wheel and the myriad possibilities of thrown form.

As well as producing artwork, Jon shares his passion and enthusiasm for clay with tens of thousands of workshop participants a year.
