Westfield School is a maintained Special School for over 60 pupils with severe or complex learning difficulties within the age range 2 – 19 years. We are situated in the market town of Leominster, North Herefordshire. Our catchment area is loosely North Herefordshire, but we also host students from South Shropshire, West Worcestershire and East Powys.

Covid 19 (updated 1.6.20)

As you will be aware, the government has advised that, from 1st June 2020, pupils in certain year groups will be encouraged to return to school. This advice is aimed at mainstream schools only, and schools such as ours continue to be responsive to individual family circumstances and student need, as stated in the following DfE guidance:

To support parents and carers to navigate Westfield's process for returning to school, a sequence of communications have been sent out, copies of which can be found here.

Letter to parents outlining return to school

In addition, a thorough risk assessment addressing all perceived possible risks, and our actions to manage or minimize these has been produced. This can be found here.

Risk Assessment pre opening

Every parent requesting that their child returns to school has been /will be asked to sign a statement acknowledging their commitment to conforming with government guidance, and to inform us of any known risks presented by their child returning to school. This can be found here.

Parental Commitment Form

We continue to be travelling through unchartered territory, and therefore respond to every new situation as it occurs. At this present time, we are supporting approximately 30% of our pupils to return to school in some way, but continue to offer restricted timetables and a reduced week.

I also attach a link to a letter to parents and carers from Karen Wright the Director of Public Health.

Letter from Karen Wright

Any child not currently accessing school will continue to be supported by home-based learning packs produced by their class team, and continue to receive regular communication from school staff as has been the case since the start of this situation.

We hope our families continue to enjoy good health, and we are really looking forward to seeing you all whenever it is safe to do so.
