About Us

Our School

At Westfield School we believe in creating a family atmosphere in which every member of the school community is valued in their uniqueness.

Westfield School is smaller than most, but growing every year: there are currently over 72 learners on roll, between the ages of 2 and 19, grouped between seven classes. This number varies year on year, and numbers in each year group also vary greatly.

We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2021, and although buildings and grounds have undergone considerable improvement over the years, as well as occupying a second building, we are looking forward to a new build in the coming few years, which will enable us access to modern facilities and provide a greater breadth of curriculum delivery. Currently we have two sensory areas, two specialist food technology rooms, a therapy room, library, multi-purpose hall, polytunnel, outdoor fit-gym and sensory garden. Other facilities such as hydrotherapy and RDA are accessed via alternative providers.

Our outside space is is divided into four distinct areas, utilised throughout the day by all groups. Break times enable different activities to take place with no effect on young people requiring ‘quiet time’. We regard lunchtime leisure time as an extension of the curriculum and different activities are offered on different days, which enables learning to continue across the whole day, supporting many personal development outcomes.

Our School Values

A Value is a principle that guides our thinking and our behaviour.

At Westfield school, every individual is valued for who they are and what they contribute to the school. Values are intended to support the personal, social and spiritual development of every pupil throughout the school. We have 4 core school values that will guide pupil’s choices, behaviour and learning.

The whole staff team, parents and pupils are involved in promoting values. The values developed have been selected after consultation with pupils, staff, governors and parents as values which are important within the school community and which will be important throughout life. Our values have fulfilled 4 key areas, and we explore the aspects that contribute to these core values

Respect

Tolerance, freedom, friendship, justice, equality, responsibility, democracy, justice and faith

Resilience

Perseverance, determination, optimism, independence, self-belief, positivity and courage

Empathy

Cooperation, patience, kindness, happiness, caring, honour, compassion, forgiveness and love

Reflection

Curiosity, honesty, engagement, self-regulation and patience
